Within the framework of the Erasmus+ project, a meeting of the rectors of Georgian universities was held at Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli State University, which was attended by the rector of Kutaisi University Dr. Gocha Tutberidze.
The meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Nunu Mitskevich.
The rectors of 11 regional universities signed a memorandum, on the basis of which, a standing conference of regional universities was established to discuss issues and challenges specific to the region.
The signatories are LEPL – Akaki Tsereteli State University, LEPL – Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, LEPL – Batumi State University of Arts, LEPL – Batumi State Maritime Academy, LEPL – Gori State Teaching University, LEPL – Iakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University, Ltd. – Caucasus University, LEPL – Samtskhe-Javakheti State University, Ltd. – Kutaisi University, LEPL – Kutaisi International University, LEPL – Shota Meskhia Zugdidi State Teaching University.
In the framework of the Erasmus+ Institutional Development (CBHE) Project- “The Role of Universities in Regional Development”, the rectors of the regional universities discussed the details of the cooperation defined in the memorandum and set the future goals of even closer cooperation.
It is noteworthy that the Erasmus+ Institutional Development (CBHE) project aims to increase the role of Georgia’s regional higher education institutions in the development of the regions, to modernize their mission and strategic development plan, as well as to strengthen cooperation between universities and local authorities, taking into account the specifics of each region.
The project involves Georgian regional universities and 4 European partners from Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania. The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the National Center for Education Quality Development are also engaged in the project.
