Kutaisi University for the Democratic Citizenship

Kutaisi University is actively involved in three EU-funded projects, one of them is the EU grant program ERASMUS + project ” CURE. The project helps Kutaisi University to help the close connection to the school teachers and to rise public awareness of democratic education.

Within the framework of the project was formed a two-day training-module ,,education for democratic citizenship ‘’. This training-module was developed by our partner – Ilia State University. This training-module is used by all partner Georgian universities:

  1. Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi Stete University
  2. LLC “Kutaisi University”
  3. Samtskhe-Javakheti State University
  4. Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University

 

The issues of training-module are:

  • Democratic zitizenship
  • Professional rights of people, children and teachers;
  • Education for democratic citizenship and the role of school in the development of democratic values;

 

The aim of the training is:

Participants should understand the role of school and teacher in developing students’ competencies in “democratic citizenship”;

Participants will be introduced to the approaches that contribute to the development of democratic citizenship competencies and they will be able to apply them in practice.

 

Training was held by the representatives of Kutaisi University: Tinatin Meparishvili, Gaga Chikhladze and Nino Khazaradze. Trainings were held in Zugdidi, Vani, Baghdati, Maghlaki. 87 teachers were trained.

 

During the work, the high level of organization of the training courses and the high level of motivation was noted, as well as the special interest and activity of the teachers. Each of them unanimously expressed their desire and readiness for further cooperation.

In the nearest future it is planned to be held such kind of trainings at the 26th public school of Kutaisi and first public school of Nakhshirghele.

 

Active participation in the international projects is one of the main priorities of the Kutaisi University, this priority is properly highlighted in the strategic action plan. According to this plan the number of students and staff involved in the international projects should rise. The CURE project is one of the evidences of this aim.
