Simulation Center
The simulation center of Kutaisi University at the Faculty of Medicine, is a constantly updated, multifunctional department with modern technologies. The center is fully equipped with mannequins, simulators and the latest medical devices, which allows students to develop all the basic medical skills that will be part of their daily routine in the future medical practice. One of the important point is, that laboratory sector is located at the base of the center, which includes practical activities of the laboratory, as well as the possibility of working on "medical material"; The Histology Cabinet - where students can practically work through a microscope to study normal and pathological "tissues".
Manipulations intended for adult and pediatric sector patients are being studied in the simulation center. Students practice clinical care skills, first aid and surgical skills, which include:
- Aseptic and antiseptic norms;
- Blood pressure, pulse and breathing monitoring;
- The principles of working with a cardiographer;
- Catheterization of peripheral vein and central vein;
- The skills of performing injections (i/v; i/m; s/c);
- To develop traumatic bending and immobilization skills;
- To study the principles of laboratory work;
- Working on "medical materials";
- Principles of pediatric care;
- Obstetric-gynecological manipulations (examination, childbirth, contraceptive interventions)
- Lumbar puncture;
- Surgical manipulations (various types of sutures, wound treatment, drainage care);
- Nasogastric intubation of the stomach;
- Bladder catheterization;
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
- Tracheal intubation
At all stages of learning, an Objectively Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is conducted immediately after the completion of the training program defined by the syllabus in clinical skills, the student demonstrates the performance of various medical procedures. The video cameras and microphones are installed in each room, allowing for sound and video recording. The control mechanism significantly helps to minimize the communication between a student and the lecturers and allows the examinee to perform the task in a calm and free environment. After the completion of each exam, the analysis of student evaluations and feedback is made eventually, which facilitates the further refinement and improvement of training courses. Activities of the center is regulated by the Regulation of Simulation Center of the Faculty of Medicine.
