Visit to Armenia for a 4-Day “Teaching Integrity” Workshop

According to the Memorandum signed between the international non-governmental organization Tiri and Kutaisi University, the representative of our university – an Assistant Professor Elguja Deisadze was invited to Tsaghkadzor (Armenia) for the purpose of participating in the curriculum development four-day workshop - “Teaching Integrity” that was held from 20 to 23 August, 2012.

Tiri is an independent non-governmental organization that works with governmental organizations, business and civil society to find practical solutions to making integrity work. Tiri was founded on the conviction that integrity (which means the alignment of Accountability/Competence/Ethics without Corruption) offers the single largest opportunity for improvements in sustainable and equitable development worldwide.

The main objective of this workshop was for each participant (the representatives of various Georgian and Armenian universities) to develop a detailed curriculum and syllabus for a one semester course or a module on Integrity that is tailored to each university’s structure, requirements and needs. A proposed integrity course outline should be the basis for further development of a new course that is desirable to be taught (according to Tiri’s request) starting in the 2012-2013 academic year.

A new optional doctoral-level course “Fiscal Decentralization in Developing and Transition Economies” was represented by Kutaisi University. The course had been created in advance on the basis of the English Language on-line course “Intergovernmental Fiscal Relations and Local Financial Management” of Budapest Summer University. The discipline was highly approved by the Tiri experts.

Certificates were awarded to the participants of the teaching workshop at the closing session.
